PARTICIPATION OF MOCAHO IN THE SECOND WORLD SUMMIT FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT DOHA NOV. 2025
OVERVIEW: Participation of MOCAHO in the Second World Summit for Social Development, a major international gathering dedicated to addressing global inequalities, strengthening social protection systems, promoting inclusive economic development, and advancing social justice in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Organized with the them: Building a Future of Dignity and Prosperity for All, the summit brought together government delegates, United Nations agencies and bodies, international organizations, civil society, observers, youth representatives, stakeholders and sustainable development institutions in Qatar to explore innovative solutions that address poverty, unemployment, social exclusion and the social impacts of climate change.
For many countries of the Global South particularly in Africa, social development challenges are closely linked to environmental degradation, climate change, food insecurity and unequal access to economic opportunities. The summit therefore served as an important platform to highlight the interconnected nature of social justice, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.
During the summit, MOCAHO submitted a policy and action proposal focused on empowering youth-led climate and community resilience initiatives in vulnerable regions. This proposal was officially recognized among the “Doha Solutions”, innovative identified during the summit as practical pathways to advance sustainable and inclusive development.
PARTICIPATION OF MOCAHO IN THE UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATIO (UNCCD)
OVERVIEW: The twenty-third session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC23) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) took place in Panama City, Panama, in Dec. 2025. The session saw extensive participation from a wide range of stakeholders, all focused on reviewing progress in the global fight against desertification, land degradation, and drought.
With the theme: “reviewing global progress on land restoration and drought resilience to inform the post-2030 strategic framework of the UNCCD”, CRIC23 was a major gathering that built upon the momentum of COP16, which was held in Riyadh in Dec. 2024. The session brought together representatives from about 197 Parties to the Convention, making it a truly global forum for assessing implementation and shaping future strategies.
CRIC23 also focused on inclusivity and ensuring that the voices of non-state actors were integrated into the official review process.
